As 2003 comes to an end, many people are focused on what they are going to do in 2004. It is an exciting time in which many people write down goals; make new years resolutions, and all that other good stuff. However, if you do not hold yourself accountable for making positive changes, then they are just thoughts in your mind or words on a piece of paper. I looked at some of the goals that I wrote down for 2001 and 2002 and guess what? I achieved little if anything that I wrote down. I did not have the resolve and fire to attack my goals back then. Fortunately, that is no longer a problem.
In December of 2002 I picked up a horrible case of pneumonia and one of my lungs got completely blocked with bacteria. For a short while I was functioning on one lung, which was a horrible experience to say the least. After the doctor drained my lung he told me that I was lucky to be alive.
That was a turning point in my life in which I decided to get really focused on what I wanted to do. I had made the commitment to start a training business months before. However, I did not have a sense of urgency until that day. I realized that I wanted to live an extraordinary life with full intensity and fire and I wanted to do it right now. I set several goals for 2003 and I am delighted to state that I nailed every single one of them. I was able to do this by having a sense of urgency and not procrastinating. I got the wheel rolling fast early in 2003 and kept it rolling all year. I have some more big goals for 2004 and if I do not achieve them, it will not be due to lack of hard work and vision.
Make 2004 your year and take action quickly and decisively to achieve your goals. Do not lose sight of what you want and do not give up in the first week of January. Take action immediately as the year will go fast and before you know it, 2005 will be here. Work on achieving 50% of your goals in the first three months of 2004 and the rest will be a cakewalk!

2. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH TRAINING ARTICLE
Stimulate the CNS (central nervous system) then hit the muscles!
In an article that I read recently by top strength Coach Bill Starr, Coach Starr recommended doing five heavy singles before doing five sets of five. Coach Starr states that the heavy singles will stimulate your central nervous system and prime you for the muscle building sets.
I have used this technique many times and it works like a charm. After nailing five heavy singles, you will feel like you can conquer the world and the muscle building sets of five will feel light as a feather. To make your workouts even more effective, wrap up with three sets of ten for active recovery. The lighter sets will get a lot of blood into the worked area and speed up healing and recovery.
Take two-minute breaks in between the heavy singles and work antagonist muscles (For example, Military presses and chin-ups). Then take a two-minute break before doing the sets of five. Use a weight on the singles that you can handle for 2-3 reps in good form. Take ninety-second breaks between the sets of five and again work antagonistic muscle groups such as pecs and lats.
