1. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"If we are not in the here and now, no matter how much food we put in our bellies it is never going to be enough."
- From the book Be Here Now
Everyday when I am walking around beautiful Santa Monica I see people on their cell phones. They are walking down the beach talking on their cell phones. Driving alone talking on their cell phones. At the store talking on their cell phones. I have even seen people jogging or working out talking on their cell phones via a headset. This is really a pathetic site and talk about being disconnected. Do you really need to be on the phone when you are working out? Do you really need to have that conversation when you are walking down the beach and the sun is setting? When we distract ourselves constantly with cell phones, movies, television etc we miss out on living our lives. We are placing ourselves somewhere else so we do not have to bear the present. Take some time to turn everything off in life, yes including your cell phone and live in the moment. You will be surprised what you appreciate when you are no longer constantly distracting yourself.

Break That Plateau with Extended Sets
There is nothing worse than hitting a plateau in training for a serious athlete. Often, plateaus are a result of over training and all that one needs to do is take a few days off or do a few active recovery workouts to get back on track. However, if you are not over trained and need some new stimuli to blast past some plateaus, try the following:
Extended Sets
Many people do extended sets by training to failure on an exercise and then dropping the weight and gutting out a few more reps. A more effective and less draining method is to stop one rep short of failure on the first set, drop to a lighter weight, stop one rep short of failure again, drop to a lighter weigh etc. To increase strength and muscle density, try taking your three rep max on an exercise and do two reps. Drop the weight by ten pounds and do another two reps, then drop the weight by another ten pounds, and do another two reps. Take a three minute break and start the extended set from the beginning. If you want to increase muscle size take your six-rep max on an exercise and do four reps. Again, drop the weight by ten pounds and do another four reps. Drop the weight by ten pounds one final time and do another four reps. Take a two minute break and start the extended set again. Try doing five extended sets two to three times a week. Pick one or two exercises that you really want to improve and go for it. Dumbbells or kettlebells are the ideal choices for extended sets, as barbells take to long to get the plates off.
