Having an objective is an important part of achieving a goal. However, you have to know what the best approach is as well to get the job done. Otherwise, you are just simply throwing darts at the target in the dark. Hopefully it will hit the target, but your chances are slim. Once you figure out what you want, think about the best approach to get there. In a prior business, I wanted lots of customer and thought that putting flyers and signs all over town would get me there. It did not, and I wasted a lot of time and money. It was the wrong strategy no matter how bad I wanted the goal. When I started my strength training business I noticed that many of the top strength coaches write a great deal of articles. Again, I wanted clients and this seemed liked a good way to go. Sure enough it worked and writing a ton of articles is one of the main reasons why my business grew so rapidly. Don't just think about achieving a goal, think about the best way to go after the objective.

Switch Things Up, But Not Too Soon!
Many trainees like to switch up their programs all of the time. I have head many trainees say that they never do the same workout twice. While this may work okay for bodybuilding in which the focus is acquiring bigger muscles rather than on increasing strength, it will not work well in strength training. You need to be consistent on the core exercises to chart progress. If I do power cleans one day, and then do not do it again for a month, chances are that I am not going to improve on the power clean and it will be difficult to track increases in strength and power. Sure it is important to switch up the reps, intensity, and volume. However, if you are a serious athlete that has specific training goals, stick with a program and a selection of exercises long enough to achieve your goals.
