This incredible quote comes from newsletter reader Chris Carlson. It is amazing how much time people spend feeling sorry for themselves. What good ever comes out of this? Have you ever felt sorry for yourself and had something good come out of this. Many people with this "poor me" attitude are simply energy vampires. They get a rush off of people feeling sorry for them and love to talk about their "problems" all day long. It makes them feel important that others are wasting their time listening to their luxury problems. Well, if you are one of these, people then you are a straight up loser. Sure, all of us probably feel sorry for ourselves from time to time. No big deal. However, when you make a habit of it then you are descending rapidly into the pool of "chumpville."
Oddly enough, people with real problems rarely seek "poor me" energy. Just the other day, I saw a guy with no arms that had a big smile on his face while hanging out with a friend. I once asked a paraplegic how he could smile and he told me that he never knew how pleasurable breathing was until his accident. Next time your feel sorry for yourself, take one of your hands and slap yourself across the face. Then open your eyes and take some steps to improve your life.

I have people email me all the time regarding training problems. Many people tell me that they are doing everything right, yet they are still not making any progress. I had one person tell me that he eats a ton and cannot put on any weight. I asked this person to keep a food log for five days. I told him to write every single thing that he eats on a daily basis. Well, turns out that this guy was only eating an average of 1500-2000 calories a day. Hardly enough for a bulking diet unless you weigh 100 lbs. I had another person email me and state that he had not increased strength or size for several months and could not figure out what was wrong. Turns out that this guy had been following the same exact training regimen for several months and had not regulated the volume and intensity. In addition, he was only sleeping an average of five to six hours a night and was going through a stressful period at work. Once he changed the volume and intensity and improved his sleep, his strength went back up again.
Sometimes we are so immersed in what we are doing that we cannot see all of the flaws. This is why professional athletes have coaches. They need someone on the outside to give them objective advice. Many times we miss the details and that is usually where the problems are. If you have not been making any progress for some time, analyze your program and lifestyle critically and the "holes' will surface. Once you know what the problem is you can fix it. Or you could do what that knucklehead at the gym does. You know the guy that has been bench pressing 135 for twenty years and likes to read the Wall Street Journal in between sets.
