While I do think that goals are very important, I agree with Mr. Hayden that the path that we take to achieve goals is far more important. I have met many people in the business world that will burn anyone to get ahead. These people have no conscious and will smile to your face and talk behind your back to everyone in sight. Maybe these unethical people will achieve their goals. However, at some point I have to believe that their guilty conscious will get the better of them and create havoc. Maybe it will come in the form of a disease, depression, who knows? I have to believe that the universe is just and that people ultimately get what is coming to them. As trivial as it may sound, the journey is important and you will realize this when you achieve goals. Often when people achieve goals it is anti-climatic. Many realize that it was more exciting to go after the goal then it was to actually achieve it. This is just another sign that we were put in this world to do more than achieve goals. There is something beyond simply achieving goals that drives us. I think that it is the journey to self-discovery that each goal takes us closer to. Just make sure that you go after your goals in a manner that you can look back on and be proud of. Otherwise, you might not like what you find when your moment of self-discovery occurs.

2. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH TRAINING ARTICLE

The Power Of Daily Singles

Nope, I am not talking about the power of being single. Although that can be a lot of fun as well depending on where you are and who you are with. Nevertheless, that is a story for another time. I am talking about the benefits of doing daily workouts with heavy singles. Recently, I read an excellent book called “Rock Iron Steel” by Steve Justa. In one of the chapters Steve goes over an excellent program that the old-time strongmen used to do to increase maximum lifts. Here is how it works. Take 70% of your one-rep max on any given exercise and perform single reps daily in the following manner:

Take one-minute breaks in between each set. When you start the following week’s workout, increase the training load by five pounds and start over again. Once a month test your one-rep max and stay at the 70% range.

If you do not have time to do singles everyday, then take two days off per week and just pick up where you left off. In other words, if you train M-F you will get up to the 11 singles day. Take the weekend off, and do 13 singles on Monday. Since you are always staying at 70% off your one rep max, you do not have to worry about over training or cycling. Try it out for a month and let me know what you think.
