Many people either have no plan in life or follow a plan that someone else created for them. This is fine when it comes to things such as training programs, tax advice, and investing. However, when it comes to your life and what you want it is not acceptable. You cannot go through life trying to fulfill someone else’s dream and expect to be happy. Many people go into a profession because that is what their parents wanted them to do. I have even heard parents say that one of their kids is going to be a doctor and the other a judge. They have it all planned out and have not even accepted the possibility that their kids might have their own minds and want to do something of their own choosing. Doing something because others think you should do so is not a good enough reason and you need to take your life more seriously than that. Do something because you want to do it rather than to impress others. Ultimately what others think will not matter that much. Take the time to figure out what you want to do with your life. It is amazing how many people do not.

The Other Side Of Training

Serious trainees now how to attack training and put in 100% every time they workout. However, if you do not now how to relax and turn the intensity off you will never be as strong as you can be. Moreover, you will burn out far more often. Strength training stimulates the CNS (central nervous system) and makes you feel like you can take on the world. This is an important part of training. What is equally important is doing training that helps you wind down and relax. This will ensure that you sleep well at night and will keep cortisol (stress hormone) levels in check. Practice some deep breathing exercises after each workout and before going to sleep each night. I like to take a long walk late at night and focus on deep breathing. By the time, I get home my head is clear and I am relaxed. After your next workout, do some joint mobility exercises and focus on deep breathing. Go through each exercise slowly and focus on making your body as loose as possible. This will help you wind down from your workouts. If that is too much work, then just go for a short walk and focus on some deep breathing. Breathe in through the nose and into your stomach. Breathe into a count of four, hold for two, and breathe out in four. After the tenth breath you will start feeling really relaxed. Apply this relaxation technique whenever you are stressed. Treat relaxation as a valuable part of your strength training regimen and reap the benefits.
