1. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Positive thinking can be your biggest obstacle on the way to success.”
- Mike Mahler

In a day in age in which everyone is focused on his or her feelings and being positive all of the time, few realize that positive thinking can be a tremendous handicap. For example, if you are fat, lonely, and broke yet walk around with a smile on your face and focus on what you have instead of what you do not have, you will most likely never be successful. Why? Because you have to be dissatisfied with your life in order to make any positive changes. It is great to be grateful for what you have, but not at the expense of self- improvement and goal achievement. When I was a weak teenager that could not even bench press 100lbs, I did not smile about it and count my blessings. I got pissed off for being weak and put into action a plan to get stronger. When I only had seven bucks left in my back account fifteen months ago, I got angry and worked my tail off. Now, I have a nice bundle in savings, a rapidly growing income, and live in a much better apartment. As a result, I enjoy life much more. Positive thinking is an excuse for many people to be losers. Life is about balance. You need positive and negative energy to get things done. If you are positive all the time then you are an idiot. If you are negative all of the time then you are an idiot as well. The key is to know when to use positive or negative energy. Anger can be a very powerful force to push you into positive action. Laughter can be a very negative force to prevent you from taking action. Just as violence is sometimes necessary to prevent more violence, negative energy is necessary to create more negativity. Find the balance.

How To Work Up To Doing Glute/ham Raises

One of the best exercises for the hamstrings is the Glute/ham raise. This exercise shows clearly whether you have strong hamstrings or not. Unfortunately most people fall into the “not” category. Here is some killer advise from Wake Forest University Strength Coach Ethan Reeve on how to build up to doing Glute/ham raises:

“What we would do is start by having that person do back raises only and then build up to raising all the way up by pushing the feet against the plate and pulling body up with hamstrings. Let me point this out. Back raises by themselves, not doing G-H raises, are excellent developers for erectors, glutes and hamstrings. If you find back raises are too difficult then possibly some static holds for a few seconds at parallel to floor position, in back raise position, until we can do back raises. If this is too difficult then the static hold on the floor on your belly where you bring up your head, chest, arms, thighs off of floor. We call this "superman" or "superwoman" when needing to be politically correct. Just imagine you are superman flying on the floor.”
