One of the many benefits of having traveled around the world is that you realize how lucky you are to live in America. We have freedom here that many if not most other countries do not enjoy. In addition, America is one of the few countries in which you can arrive with nothing and achieve your dreams. Regardless, with all of the benefits of being in the US, many Americans complain all day long about how hard it is to make it here. I remember hearing one lady tell me at a conference that she hates the U.S. and rather live anywhere else. I asked her if she has ever been outside of the U.S. and she said no. I told her that she is an idiot and that she does not know how lucky she is to be here. Thousands of people risk their lives to come here each year. How many people do that to get to Poland, Iceland, or Cameroon? You guessed it zero. The bottom line is if you cannot make it in America then you cannot make it anywhere. Don’t believe me? Talk to people from other countries that gave up everything to come here and ask them why they did it. Instead of complaining about America’s faults do something to make things better or simply shut up. I don’t see any point in complaining about something when you could spend that energy towards improving your life.

2. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH TRAINING ARTICLE

Avoid The Adaptation

A very common mistake that many trainees make is failing to change their training programs often enough. Many trainees are stimulus addicts and simply train for the sake of training. When I used to work in a gym many years ago I would see many members come in month after month doing the same exact exercises in the same order using the same training loads. They always complained that they never made progress and could not figure out why. Studies show that you adapt to a training stimulus in 4-6 weeks. After 4-6 weeks whatever program you are on becomes less beneficial and it is time to adapt. It is always funny to here a trainee try new program and to hear him or her think that he or she has found the Holy Grail. In reality they have just changed the stimulus and will make progress for 4-6 weeks. After that period, it will be time to switch things up once again. Now the modifications do not have to be dramatic. For example, you could do five sets of five on the bench press for four weeks and then switch to six sets of three. Another option is to change the grip from medium to close-grip or use a similar exercise such as dumbbell bench presses or weighted dips instead for four weeks. In addition to keeping training interesting and fun, you will avoid training plateaus and make progress faster and more efficiently. Isn’t that what training is all about?
