Have you ever noticed that information that is vague is basically worthless? For example, I could tell you that in order to get your articles published in print magazines you need to send your articles to the editor. While this is true, does that really tell you what you need to know to be successful at the task? No it sure does not. You have to know what to write, what to say in the email (including the subject line), what not to say, and a ton of other details that make all of the difference.
Strength training is the same ball game. This is precisely why most programs in magazines do not work for most people. Not necessarily because the programs are ineffective, although that is often the case, because the guidelines and instruction are usually vague. If you want to be successful in any endeavor, get down to the details. Knowing the details could be the difference between being successful and failing miserably.

2. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH TRAINING ARTICLE
In Pavel Tsatsouline’s excellent new book “Beyond Bodybuilding” Pavel discusses how doing a clean before each KB press (or any press) gets your body in the groove for a great press. He recommends doing a clean before each press. I agree with Pavel. A good clean before a press will give you a solid base to press off of. However, I have found that I can get in and stay in the groove by doing the following:
Clean two bells and press them overhead, lower them back to the rack and re set. In other words get back into the exact position that you were in on the first clean. Tighten up and then press the next rep. This will take a while to learn, but once you do it will be automatic and you will not have to think about it on each rep.
Once you get used to this you will have all of the benefits of the clean before each press without having to do the clean before each rep. Why bother? Because doing a Military Presses without the clean keeps the tension on the shoulders and in my opinion is better for shoulder strength and size building.
With the clean the tension is taken off the shoulders on each rep. This does not mean that you should not do the clean and press. It really depends on your goals. The Clean and press is a great way to build up some reps and in high reps is a killer for muscular endurance, as it is a full body move. However, if you want bigger shoulders, do one clean and several presses in a row on each set. Just re-set in the rack position before doing each rep.
