1. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH QUOTE OF THE WEEK

While spending money may not equal commitment (this is usually applicable to people that do not value money), not spending any money or effort certainly means that you are not committed. The bottom line is that when things come to us easily we do not take them seriously. One of the best books on how to be successful period is called “Think And Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. It is a classic and can be found at just about any library in the country. You can even read it online on various websites for free. Despite the fact that this book is easily accessible to the masses, very few people take the time to read it and apply the principles in the book to their lives. This is unfortunate as the information in the books is priceless. However, priceless means that a price cannot be put on the information, which to many people means that it is worthless. On the other hand, many people spend thousands of dollars to attend “get rich” seminars, which essentially disseminate the same information. If you have ever attended one of these seminars, you will notice that people are taking notes frantically and they should be. After all they spent a lot of money to attend the seminar. However, in many cases they could have gotten the same information for free or inexpensively by simply reading “Think and Grow Rich.”

One of the greatest opportunities in the U.S. is the privilege of being able to start a business and work for yourself. Regardless, most businesses do not make it to the second year. There are of course many reasons for this and I could spend the next fifty newsletters discussing the major ones. Yet, one major one is the fact that some entrepreneurs do not value the opportunity. They have either never worked for others or have not worked for others long enough. Once you get to the point in which you cannot stand working for others, your chances of succeeding on your own increase dramatically. Every time you think of throwing in the towel you will recall how miserable you were working for someone else and it will fuel your fire to persevere. Translation you value the opportunity because you have paid the price.

There are many reasons why people fail in business, training, etc. However, one of the major reasons is because they do not understand the value of the opportunity and they are not willing to pay the price.

The Benefits Of Wave Loading

Most trainees do pretty basic workouts in which you either use a pyramid scheme in which you increase the weight with each successive set, or you use the same weight for a designated number of sets. However, there is another way that you will find both refreshing and enjoyable and it is called “wave loading.” I first came across the concept of “wave loading” in an article by top strength coach Charles Poliquin many years ago. I tried it out and liked it. Recently, I was reminded of wave loading after reading Pavel Tsatsouline’s new outstanding book “Beyond Bodybuilding.” Here is an example of a “wave loading” workout from one of my most recent kettlebell workouts:

As you can see, wave sets could also be referred to as seesaw sets. You start with a designated weight, move up to a heavier one and then instead of moving to yet another heavier set, take a step back and then take a step forward. You will find that each lighter set acts as an active recovery set for the heavier sets to follow. This is a great way to up the volume in your workouts without burning out as easily. Moreover, you will find that the lighter sets feel even lighter after doing the heavier sets. In addition, you will find that you can do more sets with the heavier weights than you could if you just did the heavy sets alone. Translation, “wave loading” will help you get stronger and if you up the calories bigger as well.

Try doing a “wave loading workout” 1-2 times a week to shake things up. You could also apply “wave loading” to other protocols such as the 5x5 program, EDT, or German Volume Training. Experiment with “Wave Loading” and let me know what you think.
