1. AGGRESSIVE STRENGTH QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"In life people tend to wait for good things to come to them. And by waiting, they miss out. Usually, what you wish for doesn't fall in your lap; it falls somewhere near by, and you have to recognize it, stand up, and put in the time and work it takes to get to it."- Neil Strauss from the book "The Game"
Some people want to be successful and other people simply do not want to be successful. Successful people look for opportunities and ways to make opportunities. Unsuccessful people miss opportunities all day long and often look the other way when opportunities land near by. Why is this? Who knows. As motivational speaker Jim Rohn states it is one of the mysteries of the universe. One trait that is common with unsuccessful people is that they complain more than they work. They whine about why things are not going their way and do not take responsibility for their lives. It is always someone else's fault or something beyond his or her control. A common phrase among unsuccessful people is "It was not meant to be" or "It was not in the cards." Sure there are many things that are outside of your control, but you cannot live you life believing that nothing is in your control and that there is nothing you can do to achieve your goals. Success does not happen by accident and it does not happen to people that are just lucky. Luck has nothing to do with it. Study anyone that is successful at anything and you will see lots of hard work, discipline, mental toughness, and often a smart game plan but now always. Hard work and mental toughness can make up for a lot. Moreover, you usually see a trail of previous failures before the successes surface. While unsuccessful people give up at the first failure, successful people learn from the experience and move forward.
Another reason why unsuccessful people miss out is that they are too busy gossiping, talking behind other people's backs, and wasting time with other nonsense. Where do these actions get you? Nowhere. If you are going to vent, do it quickly and move on. If you have a problem with someone, address the individual in question instead of whining to some else that cannot do anything about it. All you are doing is relinquishing power to another with mindless complaining. Now lets talk about successful people.
One thing that successful people have in common is the willingness to sacrifice. You cannot have it all, all of the time. You cannot lose fat and get healthy and at the same time hit Burger King, Krispy Crème, and Dunkin Donuts everyday. You cannot get stronger and workout once a month or switch programs every other day. Consistency is a critical component of success. Without it success will always evade you. You cannot watch five hours of TV every night and complain that you are only getting four hours of sleep. Sleep is a critical component of success (any success) and if you have to make some sacrifices to get it in, then that is what need to be done.
Next, successful people are proactive people. They do not wait for things to come their way or for opportunities to be spoon feed to them. They aggressively pursue opportunities and take action consistently. Moreover, successful people do not wait for other people to motivate them. What if the motivation never comes? You have to be self motivated and if you need someone else to motivate you then you really are not serious about your goals. Do not even bother going after your goals if you need a cheer leading squad to clap for you all day long then give up and just turn on the TV and see what Brad and Angelina are up to. Act like an adult and be your own source of motivation. Working with people that push you and bring out the best in you is one thing. However, when going after a goal you are often on your own and need to have an internal drive to persevere. People often go to conferences and seminars and get excited because they are surrounded by similar minded people. However, what happens when you are back on your own? One way to use seminars and conferences to your advantage is to use them as motivators to improve. For example, I always want to be at my best at each seminar I teach at as I am setting the example for the class. I always have seminars coming up to teach and thus there is always a sense of urgency for me to train hard, work on my teaching skills, and show up at the top of my game. Just do not end up being a seminar addict in which you go from one seminar to the next because you want to be around people that make you feel good. Focus on what you can do in between each seminar. Similar to music the pause between each note is critical.
Open your eyes and stop missing opportunities that are all around you. Do not wait for things to come your way. Be an adult and decide what you want and find the steps necessary to get going. Do not waste another day, week, month, or year. 2005 is almost over and I do not know about you, but the year went by really fast. The time is now. Take action before 2006 is over as well.
