"Your course has everything we do and need, body weight, strong man training, the ropes and of course KBs. We were going to go to a fitness conference but then decided we didn't want to deal with 1,000 other fitness professionals and courses that don't apply to what we do in our business. Your conference is small and just deals with the stuff that pertains to us. The FREE DVD is what sealed the deal for us! --Laurel Blackburn
"What an opportunity! This many incredible people talking about fitness, strength, body mobility, body weight exercises, teaching me things I can take home and use --working with me on my form and giving me tools that can make my winter training that much more productive and then there's the whole knowing I have this seminar to attend in October which will help with my accountability for keeping with my summer program and getting a FREE DVD of the experience to boot! How can I NOT sign up?"--Beth Currie
You do not want to miss this workshop!
It is time for another great two-day workshop in Las Vegas. Last year was the “Boys Are Back in Town” workshop, which was a huge success. This year I am bringing in a new cast to do another unique workshop that you will benefit from tremendously.
While I am very excited about this workshop I am going to do my best to avoid using over the top marketing to inform you on the benefits of attending this workshop. No pitch on how this workshop is going to be life changing or on how you cannot afford to miss it. No doubt it is going to be an incredible workshop and I would love to see you at the workshop. I know you will benefit immensely by attending and applying what you learn. However, this workshop is not for everyone. Most people are just not serious about training and taking it to a high level. If you are serious about maximizing strength, health, and vitality then this is the workshop for you. If not, then there are plenty of other options for you.
Without further adieu, here is this year’s outstanding 2008 line-up and what each instructor is covering:
Main Presenters:
John Brookfield: The Battling Ropes System for incredible strength, cardio, and muscular endurance.
Jon Hinds: How to maximize the benefits of bodyweight training and an incredible bodyweight training system for the road warrior.
Mike Mahler: Advanced kettlebell training and nutrition strategies for effective fat loss, vitality, and well-being.
Mark Philippi: How you can benefit from strongman training and how to incorporate it safely and effectively into your training program.
Guest Presenters:
Tom Furman: How you can have pain free mobility and durability. In addition, what mobility exercises you should be doing before and after every workout.
Dylan Thomas: Effective strength training and conditioning for the martial artist that works just as well for everyday people like you.
Now here are a few things I want to say up front before we go any further.
- I will be having this workshop filmed to turn into another DVD set. Everyone that attends the workshop will be getting a free copy of the DVD ($169.95 retail value). This is an incredible reinforcement tool. Workshops like this are often information overload and an attendee is lucky to remember 20% of the overall information. However, with the DVD that number goes up to as high as 100% as you can watch the DVD as many times as you need to get every last bit of great information and apply it.
- 10% of the profit (not revenue as there is a big difference) will be going to an incredible non-profit organization called Kids Kicking Cancer. One of my online magazine readers and a great lady Linda Matsumi informed me about this outstanding organization. These kids embody what real strength is all about and you will be helping this wonderful organization by attending our workshop. Of course, you can always help them directly as well. Check out their site at: http://www.kidskickingcancer.net/Video.html Thanks again for the recommendation Linda!
Free stuff you get for attending the workshop
- Collision Course Workshop DVD ($169.95 value)
- Power Pushup 2 and Jungle Gym ($90.00 value)

Detailed information about the workshop and why you must attend
Main Presenter #1: John Brookfield
Topic: The Battling Ropes System and how you can use it to enhance any training program or how you can use it as a stand-alone training system for incredible strength, cardio, and muscular endurance.
Lets start with the first presenter John Brookfield. John Brookfield is a multiple world record holder who has been seen on television shows such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, Regis and Kathie Lee and the Vicki Lawrence show. John has been listed in Ripley's Believe It Or Not and the “Guinness book of world records.” In addition to being a world class strength athlete, John has authored four books including the popular Mastery of Hand Strength.
It is clear that John is an incredible strength athlete however you are not paying hard earned money just to see some feats of strength! Fortunately, John is an outstanding trainer and to say that he is very enthusiastic about his material would be a serious understatement. His enthusiasm is contagious and his delivery is fun and entertaining to keep you fully engaged. Lets get into what John is going to cover and how you will benefit.
While John is very well versed in a variety of training systems, he is very well known for his Battling Ropes Training system and that is going to be the focus of his presentation. Do not worry, he will cover how to combine it with kettlebell training or whatever program you are on right now.
The Battling Ropes Training System is a system unlike any other due to the simple fact that the user is forced to maintain pure velocity. Velocity is the combination of speed and strength at the same time. When this occurs the user not only gets stronger but also faster as well. Also, it is important to understand that with the Battling Ropes training all momentum is taken away. This forces the user to train at a higher level of intensity, which produces huge results for the user. You will find that after a short period of time training on The Battling Ropes system you will be able to train or compete at a higher level of intensity for longer durations of time. You will find that the Battling Ropes training will transfer into your chosen battlefield no matter if your are an competitive athlete, a coach, or simply someone trying to achieve the highest level of fitness possible. You will also find the Battling Ropes training a great compliment to any training that you are doing now such as kettlebells or Olympic lifting. Whether you are trying to lose fat, build muscle, or simply get in great shape and feel better, John’s Battling Ropes System is for you.
Here are just a few of the benefits of training with the Battling Ropes:
- Increased aerobic and anaerobic capacity
- Increased power and strength
- Increased power and strength for longer durations
- Increased motivation and mental endurance
- Increased performance in all aspects of your life
- Fat loss acceleration (assuming your diet is in check)
Whatever sport you are into now or whatever training system you are using, John's system will help you do it better. For those of you that have seen The Battling Ropes System on the web, it may look like it consists of just one exercise. However, there are actually seven different levels and elements to Battling Ropes Training. Here are just a few of the exercises and elements that John Brookfield will show at the workshop. Also, this will all be presented in a hands on manner so that you will not only understand the training but also know how to implement the training when you leave the workshop.
- The first topic of the Battling Ropes to be discussed is the Ability to maintain and sustain velocity. This is also the foundation of the system. You will learn and participate with the basic exercises, which will develop a much higher level of intensity in your training. You will find that you will not tire out nearly as fast after implementing this training. Here are a few exercises that you will learn.
- underhand waves
- overhand waves
- inward and outward circles
- bullwhip
- sidewinder
- The second topic that will be discussed and then applied is the partner training of the Battling Ropes. You will learn how to train with a partner or even with a team. This is perfect if you are a trainer or coach. The partner or team training actually increases the intensity of the training in a safe effective manner. In this training you not only create your own surge and waves of the ropes but also have to deal with your partners surging and waves of the ropes. This training can also be taken to the sport form where you actually would be competing.
- The third topic that will be discussed is the pole system, which is the strength endurance phase of the training system. This training will give you a much higher level of strength endurance that will transfer into any sport or battlefield. You will quickly find that your strength level will not tire or wear down near as quickly after implementing the pole system training for awhile. The Pole System like all of the Battling Ropes training will take away the momentum factor and you will be forced to train with just pure output. Even though, you are forced to use pure output with no momentum, you will find that all of the training is safe for the user due to the fact that you are in the driver’s seat and creating your own intensity as the pilot of the plain. Here are a few of the Pole System exercises you will learn.
- frontward pull
- backwards pull
- seated over the shoulder
- standing sideward pull
- kneeling sideward pull
Feedback from people that have benefited immensely from the battling ropes system:
"John, first I would like to thank you for taking the time to teach me about your training system. Boy, was I floored by how my body felt after only a few short minutes! What I love about your system is that it eliminates the fear of injury because when you done, your done. There is no fear of dropping weights on your head or falling due to fatigue. At the end of the day, you have taken a simple 1-1/2” and 2” rope and made it into a total body workout that every combat athlete should be doing as part of their training program. I HIGHLY recommend it to all my athletes. Great product by a great coach!"--
—Michael Fry Grapplers Gym
"John Brookfield's Battling Ropes System is a great addition to my training and fits wonderfully into my Kettlebell conditioning circuits. In addition to being an awesome anaerobic conditioning tool, it is also great for grip and muscular endurance and will no doubt benefit my training for Kettlebell Sport (GS)."
—Catherine Imes, Girevoy Sport Champion and Master of Sport
"The Battling Ropes provide not only a fantastic shoulder-and-grip workout, but they also are excellent for the posterior chain. The hams, glutes and lower back will be screaming in short order. Don't forget the cardio: The Battling Ropes will take care of that, too! The Battling Ropes are scalable, fun and easy to learn; they can be used to train de-conditioned folks or to provide a "kick butt" workout in elite athletes. Simple, effective and fun: This is a great piece of equipment that any athlete (especially a CrossFitter) would find to be a useful part of the toolbox. Just imagine the fun if sets of Battling Ropes would be combined with pullups and sandbag clean-and-presses for time!"
—Kelly Moore, Master of Sport and Powerlifting Champion
"When it comes to the Battling Ropes system, doing is believing! I watched the presentation and said to myself, "I see the grip work and the local muscular endurance." When I tried out the exercises, it blasted my core and my heart rate shot up as well! There was so much more to the workout than my eyes had led me to believe. Talk about functional ab work. This training is perfect for athletes looking for a way to train their abs in a standing position to maintain midline stabilization and balance while absorbing tremendous outside forces. The exercises you can do with the ropes are only limited by your imagination! I am really impressed with the variety of exercises Mr. Brookfield has developed using this system."--
—Josh Everett, Strength Coach for UC Riverside
"As a female powerlifter and fitness guru, I am always looking for fresh, new and innovative ways to develop more power and strength as well as maintain the level of fitness I have achieved. The natural movements that emphasis the flow of current of the Battling Ropes System is a sure way to keep muscles sharp and conditioned, as well as improve strength gains, cardiovascular development and stamina. The knowledge, talent, and skill put into this innovation will sustain its position in the fitness industry for many years to come. Thanks, John!"
—Vanessa M. Hood
"John's seminar was fantastic! His knowledge and variety of exercises with Battling Ropes was immeasurable. The creativity and versatility of each exercise allows for a total body workout. Battling Ropes exercises can be geared towards any fitness level. I have been enjoying, exploring, and passing on this innovated training system to other women. As a female athlete I look forward to adding Battling Ropes to my training to reach my full competition potential."
—Amber Burns,
CrossFit Instructor
"John Brookfield has created one of the most unique training systems available to mankind to date. I have worked with athletes ranging from prepubescent to world-record holders. The Battling Ropes are one of those unique training tools that will stay in your “training tool box”. It is amazing what you can do with a section of 50-foot rope. You can train for muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, anaerobic endurance, muscular strength, power, and mental toughness with one training apparatus. I have used the Battling Ropes with the following sports: swimming, basketball, softball, baseball, golf, cross country, tennis, football, and especially with mixed martial arts fighters. The system can be adapted in numerous ways by manipulating the length and size of the rope. I even have my 9-year-old son train with a 1-1/4" rope in our den. This system can be used for almost anyone! Thank you for creating a “physiological phenomenon” for the world of physical conditioning!"
—Mike Martino, Ph.D., CSCS, ACSM-ETT, CES
"Thanks John for coming to the Olympic center to teach our wrestlers your Battling Ropes system. It was great to get all the instruction directly from you the creator of the system. I strongly believe that your Battling Ropes system will benefit our wrestlers in a great way. All of the wrestlers quickly saw how the training will help them go to the next level."
—Ivan Ivanov, Head Greco Roman Wrestling Coach, Olympic Training Center.
"As an ex NFL player and college football coach, John has given me a great way to train my athletes with his Battling Ropes system. John's Battling Ropes system develops mid-line stabilization, digital strength and best of all, an intense anaerobic workout that can be used for any sport or occupation. Strength training at high intensity transfers into power and speed and this is actually what John has developed with his Battling Ropes system."
—Andy Hendel, Former NFL Special Teams Captain For The Miami Dolphins
"Battling Ropes training is great. It is a total body sprint. I nearly blacked out my first time. Days later, my arms were still pumped. I love being able to go full fury without having to worry about something breaking or getting hurt. The workout leaves my lungs feeling larger and I noticed better stamina after only two sessions."
—David Ellis, National Judo Champion-Olympic Judo Team
"I have known some very strong guys, however, John is one of those rare guys who is not simply among the strongest in the world, but is truly head and shoulders above the rest of us. John has unending innovations and creativity when it comes to developing strength. He knows how to motivate athletes and develop tools that will take any athlete to their highest level of performance. John has become not only a legend but also a living legend among the strong."
—Philip Pfister, 2006 World’s Strongest Man Champion
If you are not impressed by the incredible testimonials that John has then you do not have a pulse. If this seminar just consisted of John’s section, it would no doubt be worth the price of admission alone. However, it gets better as John is only one of six presenters that will be at this one of a kind workshop.

"Fantastic, very humbling! Jon has a great philosophy and knowledge on how the body works, always building towards more and more athletic exercise. Excellent seminar!"
—Stan Alexander, Strength Coach, Virginia
"Jon’s seminar in Madison, Wisconsin was an event that exceeded my expectations. I have been to many fitness conferences, workshops and events, however this training was by far the best ever! This totally assured me that you do not need to be at a gym, lugging dumbbells around, sliding from one piece of equipment to the next to just get fit. You can get fit from home, your laneway, hotel room or park! The options are endless, the progressions taught were excellent, so now I can pretty much work with many clients at once at any level, all in the same class without feeling that I am being stretched as the instructor. This is a great asset to a private studio located in a rural community. The equipment that is optional is very reasonable to purchase and not intimidating to use. I could not have asked for a better addition to my current knowledge and certifications."
—Suzanna Debeer, Ontario, Canada
"Learning with Jon Hinds at the Monkey Bar Gym was a transformational fitness experience. After just two days, I felt stronger in my core than I have ever felt in my life. My posture improved noticeably, and the ache in my back disappeared. Functional fitness - training movements, not muscles - is a revolution whose time has come. I will never go back to machines and treadmills again - I am free to get fit like other animals do - as part of my daily life."
— Howie Jacobson, North Carolina

Main Presenter #3: Mike Mahler
Advanced Kettlebell Training And Nutrition Strategies that work for fat loss, vitality, and well being
Since I am the one writing this ad copy I am going to write in first person rather than feel silly writing about myself in third person.
Over the last six years I have done a ton of Kettelbell workshops across the US. I am also the author of several popular kettlebell training DVD’s and e-books and I am the producer and one of the instructor’s in the highly acclaimed “Boys Are Back In Town Kettlebell Workshop DVD.”
While I really enjoy helping people become physically stronger and healthier, I feel that strength training is far more than what you can do physically. What is the point of being strong physically if you are not in charge of your life and at the mercy of others in your personal and professional life? Real strength goes far beyond how much weight you can lift. This is what my phrase “Live Life Aggressively!” is all about and what I bring to the table.
While I have enjoyed teaching a ton of beginner and advanced kettlebell workshops in the past, one of my current goals is to go beyond kettlebell training and become an information provider for comprehensive strength, well-being, and vitality. “The Boys Are Back In Town” workshop and DVD was the beginning of this course and “The Collision Course Workshop” and DVD set is the next evolution that I hope will bring tremendous value to the lives of thousands around the world.
Enough about me! Here is what I am going to cover at the workshop and how you will benefit big time.
What you will learn at during my section and why it will accelerate your kettlebell training progress and your overall strength, conditioning, and well being goals.
- Why too much tension is a waste and how to apply just enough tension to get the job done. High tension is great when you need it but a disaster when you do not. Learn when to use it and when to avoid it.
- Where your hands should be on Double Kettlebell Military Presses and how the bells should be racked for maximum control and power.
- Should your legs be locked out for maximum kettlebell pressing power or is a slight nend in the knees the way to go? Find out at the seminar.
- What the kettlebell kickstart press is and how use it to build more confidence for pressing. This exercise has many of the benefits of the push press but has a more precise transfer to kettlebell military pressing.
- The advantages of doing double swings and double snatches with the bells on the outside of your feet and how to do it. This version will allow you to generate more power than ever. You will be shocked at how much higher the bells get with less effort. Of course you have to do it right and you will at the workshop.
- Why you must do rows and other pulling movements for healthy shoulders and strong pressing. 90% of pressing plateaus are due to imbalances.
- The benefits of the kettlebell crucifix for health shoulders and a strong torso.
- How to use kettlebells to develop serious rotational power
- Why body positioning and leverage is crucial for strength and efficiency
- Tons of tips to go from Renegade row failure to renegade row success. Variations of the Renegade row to accelerate strength and progress.
- How to avoid over-training the shoulders with kettlebells. Every KB exercise is a shoulder exercise. Learn which ones to focus on and which to cut out.
- Why the Double KB Swing is one of the best ballistic KB exercise for strength and power and how to handle more weight
- Why Double Swings carry over well to double pressing
- Pressed for time? Learn a great comprehensive kettlebell leg exercise that covers it all.
- The best KB exercises for speed and explosive strength and why you should never do more than three reps when speed and explosive power are your goals.
- Develop incredible explosive power with the Jump Shrug and Full Body Attack
- How to work up to the elusive double snatch and why it is a much different move than the one arm snatch.
- The biggest mistakes that kettlbell trainees make with program design and why many KB trainees are over-trained stimulus addicts.
- When to add isolation exercises to your routine and when to focus on compound drills
- How to combine kettlebslls with other training tools such as barbells and sandbags for the best of all worlds.
- How to design a personalized training program tailored to your goals and what to keep in mind.
Here are the exercises that you will learn in detail at the workshop:
- Double Clean and Relaxed Mil Press
- The Kickstart Press
- Double Outside Swing
- Double Outside Snatch
- Crossover snatch for serious rotational power
- Tons of variations on rowing exercises
- Kettlebell crucifix
- Double Clean And Squat
- Double Clean and Squat Press
- Hang Clean
- Hang Snatch
- Full Body Attack
- Jump Shrug
Of course we could try to cover tons of other exercises. However, you will learn more and benefit much more form learning a few exercises really well. In addition to covering a variety of exercises, I am going to spend a lot of time with you covering program design and nutrition.
Mike Mahler Nutrition Lecture
Do not worry this is not going to be a pitch on the vegan diet. While I of course welcome any questions you have on the vegan diet, I am a firm believer that you can be healthy as a meat eater and as a vegan (My great grandmother was a life long meat eater and lived to be over 100. My mother is a life long vegetarian and looks much younger than she is and is healthy, mentally sharp, and full of energy). The main principles are the same, which is a focus on real natural food and an avoidance of synthetic garbage that far too many people eat daily.
Next, I never ask any of my clients to do anything that I am not willing to do. I am a firm believer in leading as a trainer and a businessman. I eat a clean healthy diet and have been doing so for many years. I am tired of trainers that have the audacity to call themselves fat loss experts when they themselves are fat! No matter how good their advice may be, it either does not work, or they cannot follow it themselves. If they cannot follow it they are in no position to expect you to follow it. While being lean does not necessarily mean that you know anything about effective nutrition, being fat definitely means that you do not know how to personally apply effective nutrition and are not in a position to instruct others on effective nutrition protocols. All right, rant is over and lets get into what I will be covering:
- The benefits of a fat fuel diet and is it a fit for you? You will be able to determine whether carbohydrates are your ideal fuel source or if fat fuel is a better choice for you.
- High-energy fat fuel foods that will give you long lasting energy. It is time to get over the misnomer that fat makes you fat. That said, not all fats are created equal and many should be avoided like the plague.
- The benefits of under eating and having one main meal. Nope, the main meal does not have to be dinner. Under eating and overeating can be personalized to fit you. Also under eating does not mean water fasting!
- An incredible inexpensive antioxidant drink that will give your immune system a nice boost. This is a viable alternative to the vitamin water crap on the market that is loaded with sugar. This mix contains no sugar and fits anyone’s budget. No it is not some MLM crap product but a drink that you can make using ingredients that you can get at any grocery store.
- Why all sports drinks are garbage and should be avoided. Learn about an alternative that works better without any of the negatives
- Sugar alternatives: are any of them worth taking?
- How to modify nutrition depending on what your goals are
- Why you must have a cheat day once a week to keep fat loss going. This is not only beneficial mentally but hormonally as well.
- Common mistakes that bring fat loss to a screeching halt and how to avoid them.
- The benefits of the stress hormone cortisol for fat loss and on the flip side how it can hamper fat loss dramatically.
- What to do to optimize sex hormones naturally and why you should care.
- Learn about an alternative to expensive blood tests that is very cheap and more comprehensive
- What minerals matter and when to take what
- What supplements are worth taking on a low budget and what is not worth taking no matter how big your budget is!
Feedback from people that have benefited immensely from my training information:

His extensive knowledge feeds a powerful passion to explore the human body with safety and strength. If you get a chance to train with him; do so or regret it."
—Frank Shamrock, Five Time UFC Middleweight Champion
"Lost 10 lbs and went down from a size 12 to a size 8 in jeans – that was something I expected not to happen for another 10-15 more lbs! So thanks for your guidelines – they really have helped a lot."

"For women out there who have tried everything. I have always been fit. But I have always been bulky fit. On the HOC program that Mike designed for me I have become leaner than ever. In six months I have gone from a bodyfat percentage of 23% all the way down to 14.5%. I am 36 years old and I have never felt better."
—Staci From Punch Gym in R.I.
"Thank you for an amazing day. Even after two years of working with Kettlebells, buying videos, and working on form on my own I can honestly say that the time and money were VERY WELL spent. Now I know how much I didn't (don't) know.
Oh, after I was able to press the 88 I went around the corner and grabbed Mark's 97. It went up with both arms too! I am more motivated than ever now. It is hard to believe that when I started it was a stretch to press the 35 overhead more than 5 reps. To be able to work out the entire day with a 53 I would never have thought possible 18 months ago.
Thanks again for sharing the wealth of information you have acquired."
—Ron Priestley
"Thanks again for your class. It was Money well spent. You taught a wealth of insightful information in a way that most professional teachers, I think, would envy. Clear, patient, concise, and with humor (an essential and often overlooked quality). Never condescending. I was sore the next day, in an area I didn't expect to be the legs) but it was a good sore. Anyway its obvious to see that you enjoy what you do, much continued success! If its at all possible let me know if you are going to teach an intermediate class any time soon in the Vegas area - would love to get to the next level."
—Adam Gregory
"Please come back to DC. We'd like to attend another workshop from you. Amazingly enough, my entire body is sore, but not my lower back. The first time I was trained with someone else, I had a sore back. I just love the way you trained us. It's phenomenal!"
—Mya Thida
"Since I have been using Mike's techniques I have gotten into absolutely amazing shape. I'm proud to say it! I cannot recommend his expertise enough. In the past few months, everyone I know has asked me how I got so fit and I direct them all to kettlebells and Mike Mahler. Mike realizes that everyone has different training goals and what they need to do to achieve them. He knows what works and what doesn't and will get you where you want to go. Thanks Mike, you seriously kick ass!"
—Chris Pontius of MTV's Wildboyz and Jackass
"In our field countless numbers hold themselves out as experts, yet only a select few can be called true experts. Utilizing his rare skill with the art of kettlebells, he marries these classic techniques with routines that are modern and thoughtful, yet still creative and diverse. Mahler also offers seminars and articles that are both informative and inspiring. He’s just amazingly well-rounded. Simply stated, I consider Mike Mahler to be one of the premier strength trainers in the world today.”
—Carlon M. Colker, M.D., FACN Author, Extreme Muscle Enhancement—Bodybuilding’s Most Powerful Techniques Contributing Editor and Writer, Muscular Development Magazine Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director, Peak Wellness
"Mike what I like about your articles, something that makes you special is how inspiring you are. Many coaches have the book smarts and experience, but few have a way of bringing out the absolute best in everyone!"
—Christian Thibaudeau, Author of "The Black Book Of Training Secrets" and contributor to Testosterone Magazine
"This opportunity gives me the chance to thank you for the tremendous results that I had during the time that you were coaching me (1.5 years). Although I had years of experience in the martial arts I was new to grappling. Nevertheless when I started to train at Pancration and submission grappling I had great success in a very short time. The reason was superior physical conditioning. To my surprise I managed to win against guys that were 10 to 15 years younger than me with greater experience in grappling, simply because I was moving faster, being stronger and lasting longer. Results speak for themselves. A million thanks."
—Antonis Kaniaros
"I wanted to let you know how much success I had while on your program. I continued in a maintenance phase while deployed. I arrived back today and was told that I needed to perform a PT (physical training) test. A PT test in the army consists of pushups, sit-ups, and a two mile run. On my last PT test I preformed 41 pushups in two minutes, this time I did 60. As for sit-ups 50 last time, 72 this time. However most surprising to me was the run, my last two mile time was 16:20, this time it was 14:20. I did not expect to make that much improvement with out ever running. Thank you again for all your help."

Main Presenter #4: Mark Philippi
Strongman Legend and strength and conditioning expert Mark Philippi on the benefits of strongman training for every day people like you.
Most of you know who Mark Philippi is and even if the name does not ring a bell at first, if you have ever watched a strongman training competition on ESPN in the last seven years you have seen this strongman bad ass in action.
Mark has been a fixture on ESPN’s Worlds Strongest Man contest, competing for seven years, making the finals twice and finishing 7th in 1997 after winning the America’s Strongest Man title that year. Mark has traveled the world competing against the best strength athletes on almost every continent. Before competing on the professional strongman circuit, Mark was a National and World powerlifting champion (1996).
Mark is the President and Co-owner with his wife, Tracey, of Philippi Sports Institute Las Vegas, Nevada, which is also the location of our workshop. PSI is a 9000 ft training facility with a staff of performance coaches, physiotherapy personnel, and scientific consulting team who’s mission is to help athletes of all ages and sports achieve their goals in the areas of athletic performance, fitness, diet and conditioning.
In addition to being an incredible athlete, Mark unlike many athletes is an outstanding couch and instructor. Believe me the cost of this workshop is more than worth it just to learn from Mark directly. Serious athletes such as MLB Star Jason Giambi of the NY Yankees have traveled across the country to learn from Mark and now you can as well. Here is what Jason had to say about working with Mark:
“I am a power hitter. I need to be strong. Mark is an expert at developing strength and power. He had me ready for the season.”
—Jason Giambi, New York Yankees
Mark has a lot on his plate and is also an instructor at UNLV, responsible for the teaching and implementation of a new strength and conditioning educational program within the Kinesiology department. The previous twelve years, Mark was the Director of Strength and Conditioning at UNLV, and prior to that was an assistant Strength and Conditioning coach. During his long tenure at UNLV Mark was responsible for the direction, education, and organizing of a staff that comprehensively trained 450 athletes representing 17 athletic teams.
The bottom no nonsense line is that you will benefit immensely from getting first hand instruction from Mark. Here is what he is going to cover at the workshop:

Of course this is assuming you are doing it correctly, which is a big assumption. Mark will get you on the right path to maximize the benefits of squatting.

In addition to the four main presenters, we are going to have two additional guest speakers to insure this is the most informative physical fitness workshop that you have ever been to.
Guest Presenter #1: Tom Furman
Tom Furman is going to cover an incredible joint mobility routine to help you live pain free.
Tom Furman has been involved in martial arts and conditioning since the early seventies. With an early background in wrestling and a student of the methods of the York Barbell Club in his native Pennsylvania, Tom immediately could separate fact from fiction growing up near Pittsburgh, with eleven male members of his family being Combat Veterans. The no nonsense upbringing amidst mill workers and coal miners branded his methodology early. Results mean everything. There was no bragging to his male role models about hard work or fighting. They had been there and done that.
Tom's training methods are derived from his decades long passion of martial arts and his study of exercise science. The application of force, improvement of movement, and the durability of the subject rank high on his list of priorities when he communicates his methods. He gives credit to hundreds of hours of seminars, training sessions, and 'backyard' workouts. This would include training time with many martial arts legends. He also credits his incredibly gifted training partners who vary from former Airborne Rangers and Bounty Hunters, to Boxing Trainers, and Coast Guard Rescue Divers. Tom was also fortunate to have been trained under the guidance of Exercise Physiologist Mark Jones, formerly of the Sports and Fitness Clinic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Currently Tom runs Physicalstrategies, and trains professional athletes in strength, conditioning, and movement skills. He is the creator of the popular "Concrete Conflict and Conditioning" DVD, which integrates, strength, movement, a physical combat.
Tom has definitely been around the block you get to benefit first hand from his experience.
Here is What you are going to learn during Tom’s joint mobility section:
- Durable Combative Mobility
- The Neck motion and headbutts - How to not only free your neck movement, but learn to absorb impact and deliver punishment.
- Shrug motion and protection - Making full use of the shoulder girdle for protection or application of deadly force.
- Elbow motions and application - How to use the Thai boxer's "bread and butter" technique to relieve issues in your shoulders.
- High and Low Dive and the shoulder joint - The flinch response, and how it trains your shoulder joints to stay safe during impact.
- Waist motion and the Two Power Bases - This free motion exercise teaches you how to "shorten your arc" for application of power in sports.
- Energy Transfer Squat - Train the "dead spot" in your leg movement and find out how it can also save your life.
- Energy Transfer Lunge - Single leg strength and flexibility with this bodyweight smoker.
- Depak and Squat - Training the inner thigh and lateral motion mechanics.
- Boogaloo - Stretching the IT band and learning to side step aggressive movement.
- Silat Knee Drop - The how to re-train the body to kneel correctly.
- Depak - The forward cross step and how this will make your hips do things you never thought they could do.
- Sempak- The rear cross step and gluteal drill.
- Gelek - 360 Degrees of rotation and how changing the horizontal and height zones will equal enduring leg development.
- Burlesque Bump - Quads, Glutes, and hamstrings are re-connected with this simple but elegant drill.
- Bump and Lunge - How to advance the Burlesque Bump into a deep hip flexor drill.
- Thai Stretch - Common to Thai boxers but largely unknown to Westerners. This exercise surpasses the commonly taught and poorly designed hip flexor remedies.
- Walking Lunge - Total hip, thigh, calf, and foot training.
- Kneeling Walk - Waking up your hip rotators for combative application and smooth moves.
- Alternating Leg Drag - Training the groin and hammies to open and actually move.
- Kneeling Kip - How to be light on your knees and move from ground to standing with speed and ease.
- Squatting Heel Raise - Training your feet, calves and shins to get them back to barefoot running and jumping.
Here is what people are saying about Tom and why they know you will benefit from his instruction:
“Great expression of core work out with a martial arts spin(in a good way). There are plenty of exercises and flexibility stuff that I have not seen or thought of doing that I will try to incorporate into my workouts. Nice tiger style silat postures and exercises to strengthen legs and add flexibility. The application of the work out overlapped well with the martial arts aspects.”
—John Brown
“Tom is a top notch instructor, his training is innovative and hands on with no unnecessary garnish. You can't go wrong with him.”
—Mario P Quinn
“Tom Furman presents a unique blend of training methodologies spanning traditional SE Asian martial arts, "old-school" training and current scientific advances in strength and conditioning. Far from overwhelming, his packaging and delivery of material is first rate and designed to get results. Time spend with Tom is time well spent!”
—Rufus Rankin
“Tom has a wealth of knowledge about physical training in a number of modalities and Martial Arts that are unfamiliar to many. He excels at articulating his knowledge in an extremely relevant manner. Great products and information.”
—Sean Maguire
Guest Presenter #2: Dylan Thomas
Strength and conditioning for the martial artist that will benefit you as well.
The next guest presenter is my good friend Dylan Thomas. I have worked with Dylan for many years and he is a super intense guy that knows how to keep an audience engaged. Some have said that he is too intense and in our watered down politically correct society I think that is a good thing! We need more people that are not afraid to offend people and instead care more about making people stronger, fit, and most importantly mentally tougher.
If you want an instructor that tells you how great you are and gives you a warm hug every five minutes then Dylan is not the guy for you. However, if you want great articulate instruction from a non-nonsense trainer, then you are going to love Dylan’s section.
Dylan Thomas is one of the first full time pro KB Trainers in the US. He has trained numerous KB Instructors in addition to a variety of athletes, martial artists, Military/Emergency responders and everyday people wanting to break out of the conventional fitness mode and into something more in line with our more austere past.
Dylan is a very progressive trainer and knows how to effectively combine kettlebells with conventional weight training and martial arts into an effective fitness system. He has been doing this for years with his clients and now you get to learn what they have been benefiting from for years.
In addition to being a professional KB Trainer, he is a 4th Dan Black Belt Combat/Aiki-Jujutsu Instructor and also trains in Filipino/Indonesian Martial Arts. What does this mean? It means that Dylan is one tough dude and brings that energy to his training system to make you tougher in training and in life in general.
The focus of Dylan’s presentation is going to be strength and conditioning for the martial arts. Even if you could care less about strength and conditioning for the martial arts I have no doubt whatsoever that you will love Dylan’s informative presentation and benefit immensely. Dylan has a unique and effective approach to kettlebell training and this will be a key topic in his presentation.
Here is what Dylan is going to cover:
- How to combine kettlebells with traditional weight training and bodyweight training for the best of all worlds
- Effective strength and conditioning for the martial arts. What works and what should be avoided like the plague
- Incredible strength and conditioning for self defense and close combat. Learn what really carries over and what does not.
- The importance of training for the type of martial arts that you practice and why training must be personalized.
- Why trying to train like your favorite MMA star is a disaster and why you must zero in on your needs and take your goals and time constraints into account.
- The importance of restorative exercise for the martial artist and how to implement joint mobility and yoga into your routine for enhanced performance and longevity.
- An amazing alternative from the normal set and rep scheme of bodybuilding and general strength training that is based on the flow of Yoga and Martial arts practice. Your workout will becomes an enjoyable "Performance"
Here is what people are saying about Dylan and why they know you will benefit from his training:
"I began using kettlebells in my training about 4 months ago, when I was already well into my prep for NPC Nationals. After explaining my physique and performance goals to my trainer Dylan Thomas, we mapped out a plan to incorporate this unique piece of equipment into my training regime. By adding kettlebells into a training program that also included high volume and basic core lifts, I was able to make significant gains in both size and strength, all while dieting for competition. My physique is the most complete now that it's ever been since I began competing three years ago."
—Alissa Carpio
"OK, Ladies listen up; I am relatively new to kettlebell training. I attended Mike and Dylan’s professional Kettlebell workshop in Northern VA. Mike and Dylan are truly experts in the science of kettlebell training. Dylan is excellent in his innate ability to make you focus and perform. I felt completely comfortable and part of the team during the instruction and execution of the exercises. I learned how important it is to use the right kettlebell weight and essential tweaks on my lifting."
—Carrie Pascoe, Woodbridge, VA
"In the few short months I've been kettlebell training with Dylan, I've noticed tremendous results. My strength has increased exponentially, without looking like a bulked-up gym rat. I'm not sure I could do one pull up at the start, now I can do quite a few. My bench went up 45 pounds, and I've gone from using 30lb to the 50lb dumb bells. I've noticed muscles appearing places I didn't know I had them! Most importantly, I've lost an inch off my waist, and I've never felt better. When you hear about the fantastic results that training with Dylan and kettlebells can bring about, believe them!"
—Les W. Stovall, CISSP, CAP
"I have been working out with Dylan for about a year with the kettlebells. I definitely have gained more muscle strength and get a great cardio workout. He routinely teaches me new techniques and changes up the routine that keeps it interesting."
—Patti Grant
"Dylan tailors use of kettlebells and mixes of other exercises specifically to address your particular needs and desired goals--rather then the "one size fits all", "cookie-cutter", routines that many trainers will just follow off a standardized, pre-printed form--the great aspect of Dylan's use of kettlebells is that they are so adaptable to so many different exercise goals, for men or women, of all ages, from those desiring to compete at professional levels in sports and expert levels of recreational pursuits to those recovering from injury or just beginning to exercise for the first time or after a long layoff."
—Robin Grove
"Dylan's training methods, particularly his kettle bell routines, are quite effective. In working with Dylan for the past year, I lost over 80 pounds, went from a 40-inch waist to a 32-inch waist, and from no pull-ups to 8-10 pull-ups. The workouts he designs are a great combination of intensity and efficiency. I believe I get done in 40 minutes what would take more than 90 minutes using traditional weight machines and aerobic activities, particularly as the kettle bell exercises combine aspects of weight training and aerobic conditioning into one super-charged workout. The mixture of traditional and innovative kettle bell and related techniques Dylan provides really work for me. They made it possible for me to achieve my goals and to go way beyond them. All my thanks!"

Frequently Asked Questions To Squash Your Lame Objections
Q: I am not an advanced trainee is this workshop a fit for me?
A: First, advanced trainees are going to love this workshop. That said, this workshop is the application of advanced training concepts for the benefit of everyday people as well. Thus do not be intimidated by the high level of instruction and information. A hardcore mentality more than being in great shape is what is required.
Q: Is this going to be a boot camp-style course or will it be instruction-focused?
A: This is definitely going to be a hands on course combined with some informative lectures. However, our primary goal is not to wipe you out but instead to introduce you to a variety of effective training strategies Thus, you do not need to be in super great shape to attend this course. However, do not plan on sitting bored in a chair listening to two-days of lectures. You will be working hard at this workshop and having a blast.
Q: Since you are having this workshop filmed to make into a DVD set, do I really need to attend?
A: The DVD set is going to be awesome. No doubt about that. However, nothing takes the place of in person instruction. The ideal is attending the workshop and then having the DVD as a reinforcement tool for 100% retention.
Q: How come other instructors do not film workshops to make into DVD's? It seems like a great reinforcement tool.
A: Some simply have not thought of it or do not have the resources to make it viable. Others, want you to keep coming back to repeated seminars to make more money. They know you cannot remember everything. In fact you are lucky to remember 20%. Finally, others feel that if they have a DVD of the workshop no one will want to attend the actual workshop. I do not operate from a fear based mindset and instead focus on what is best for my customers. You will not find a better value based workshop than this one.
Q: I want to get stronger, faster, leaner, and take charge of my health--should I attend?
A: Yes, and you could not ask for a better workshop. You will not be disappointed.
Q: I want to lose fat, gain energy, and have a healthy sex drive--should I attend?
A: You bet you should attend and need to sign up right now!
Q: Will you guys be taking this course on the road?
A: No, this seminar may never happen again. I know you hear this all the time in the training world, but I actually mean it. All of us are super busy and it wasn't easy to get this seminar nailed down; don't count on it happening again. Sign up now, as this seminar will sell out fast.
Q: Will you be providing a discounted hotel for us?
A: Yes, and we'll have that information sent to you after you register. Give us a month or so to get that nailed down, but yes, we'll have a nice hotel set up so you can hang out with the other trainees and relax. In addition we will have a shuttle service set up to take you from the hotel to the workshop location.
Q: Will there be opportunities to socialize with the instructors and other students?
A: Yes we are going to set up some time on the evening before the workshop and the evening after the first day of training. I understand completely that this is a big perk of the workshop and I will make sure it in incorporated.
Q: Is this a certification course?
A: No it is not. Lets be honest certifications are for the most part a joke. The idea that you are an expert in something after taking a weekend course is ludicrous to say the least. Sure we could easily give you a certification certificate for attending the course. However, we do not see the point. Want to be a great instructor? Attend the course, learn what we teach and pass it on to your clients. Your clients are your validation not a weekend certification. The more useful info you know the more useful you are to the marketplace and your clients. That said you will get a certificate of attendance at the course.
Q: What's your cancellation policy?
A: If you provide at least 30-days advance notice that you won't be able to attend the workshop, you'll have the option of a full refund or a transfer to a same-value workshop of your choice. If notice is given in less than 30 days, the refund option will be void and the transfer option will be at our discretion.
Q: Where will the course be?
PHILIPPI SPORTS INSTITUTE
6640 South Tenaya Way, Suite 100
Las Vegas, NV 89113
702-731-1774 (for directions and facility info only)
October 25-26, 2008
12pm to 8pm on Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday
Q: Why is the course so expensive?
A: It is not that the workshop is expensive it is that you do not think you can afford it or you do not see the value in attending. If the former, then there is nothing I can do to help you. Best of luck with your finances. If the latter, then clearly you have not read the ad copy. You will be hard pressed to find any other workshop on the market that is providing as much value as this one. Moreover, you get a free DVD of the actual workshop and tons of free fitness products.
Q: I'm not sure if I should sign up--can you convince me?
A: If over 33 pages of informative ad copy has not convinced you then lets not waste each other’s time. I do not have the illusion that this workshop is a fit for everyone and frankly I think that it is too much for most people to handle. The good news is that I do not care if most people attend. I just want 30 serious trainees to register and have a blast at our workshop.
Why people have already signed up for the course
